What Do You Stand For, A Kid's Guide to Building Character

This book reminds me so much of the Family Virtues Guide but is appropriate for older kids from about age 10 up. It begins with chapters encouraging kids to do a self -assessment to help them decide what qualities and virtues they most want to develop in themselves.

Chapters deal with developing a positive, problem solving, leadership, as well as many virtues of particular interest to middle aged kids. Each chapter uses stories, cartoons, jokes or other humor to demonstrated what each virtue looks like and how it can be practices. There are tasks kids can do in social situations with others and tasks kids can think about and practice in private as well as stories about kids who exemplify positive traits. The book is written to appeal to older kids but the suggestions, inspirational quotes and information could be of interest to parents, teachers and counselors. It might also be a good second book to use in Virtues Project groups.
